Kelley and I were sorority sisters at Iowa State University, while we did go to the same high school – we were a year apart and didn’t connect until college.  I kept up with Kelley’s life and growing family through Facebook.  A few years ago, she began to share the story of Ryland, her second son.  Kelley’s son proves all kids are their own individual and Kelley works hard to allow Ryland to be Ryland.  While this story follows Ryland’s journey, Kelley shares her journey as Ryland’s mom.  A journey that includes putting aside a dream for a specific future to let Ryland become all he can be.

My friend Becca is the ultimate optimist and her boundless energy allows her to give time to important efforts in her community.  Becca volunteered her story immediately after hearing about STRETCH.  She knew that her story would help someone see the challenges in their own life and find new paths through the change.

Becca is a caregiver and this episode will feel familiar to those of us who forgo our own needs when taking care of someone.  Caregivers have an amazing ability to downplay feelings, not giving weight to their own thoughts.  This causes an undercurrent that can drain energy and make the situation feel larger than it needs to be.  I hope you find nuggets of inspiration in Becca’s story that give you hope and help you STRETCH towards new possibilities.

Making changes in our lives is not easy – even when it is a life or death decision.  In Episode 02, Jacqueline shares her story of addiction and her path towards a healthy life and 33 years of sobriety.

Jacqueline shared her story for STRETCH after a brief explanation from me about the podcast.  This episode was the first I completed, and it felt like the ease of which she explains her struggles translated easily to the format I wanted to create.  This episode was the first I shared with friends as I explained STRETCH and its premise, and I’ve received great feedback from listeners about how they could translate her story to challenges in their lives.

In this episode Jacqueline and I share:
• How an addiction can start
• The self-destruction addiction can lead to
• Jacquelyn’s path from counselors to state run rehab
• Learning to prepare for change
• A spiritual awakening to live
• How purpose is the ultimate motivator
• The process of relearning behaviors and building healthy habits

I am excited for the launch of my podcast today with the release of the first episode – Annette.  Annette and I met in our local Toastmasters club.  We found a similarity in each other’s stories and outlook on life that led to long discussions over coffee.

Annette has been instrumental in the foundation of STRETCH.  She’s talked me down a few times when I questioned my desire to create a podcast and encouraged me to keep digging deeper as it began to come together.  Annette not only shared her excitement for the project, she also shared her story.  Annette shares her journey from resisting change and holding onto her past personas, to having to relearn who she is and what she is passionate about.

In this episode Annette and I share:
· What it means to live in your heart, not your head
· The importance of being yourself
· Learning not to control your emotions, but utilize them
· How to make it easier to get out of your comfort zone
· What being authentic to yourself means
